For many years, Lina Stein dreamed of offering a Creative Retreat in Ireland that would bring together two passions shared by so many people around the world — a love of Ireland, and a love of hats.
Hatventure is the realisation of that dream: a once-in-a-lifetime creative experience where both passions are fused into one unforgettable journey on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way.

Millinery with LINA STEIN
Your tutor Lina Stein is an internationally respected milliner and tutor with more than three decades of experience in the art of hat making.
Originally from Sydney, she trained in millinery in both Australia and Europe before establishing her studio in Westport, Ireland.
Her background in Classic Theatrical Millinery combines traditional craftsmanship with modern design.
Over the past 20 years she has inspired students from around the world to discover the creative possibilities of hat making.Her teaching style is relaxed, encouraging, and supportive. Participants often arrive curious and leave with confidence, creativity, and a deep appreciation for the art of millinery.
This will be an incredible voyage of discovery , friendship and creativity!

Surrounded by rolling green hills, dramatic coastline, and ever-changing Atlantic skies, you will immerse yourself into the traditional art of millinery under the expert guidance of Lina Stein and absorb all that magic of an ancient world.

What You will Create..
Swirled Sinamay Fascinator
Your first project introduces the foundations of millinery.
You will learn to shape Sinamay - a traditional millinery material into a sculptural fascinator suitable for weddings, race meetings, or elegant events
The focus is on:
- Shaping with heat and steam and stitching sinamay
- Creating sculptural forms
- Balancing proportion and structure
- Professional finishing techniques
Sculptural Felt Percher or Button Hat
Next you will begin working with 'Millinery felt', exploring the relationship between face shape, colour, and design.
Using steam, Lina's wooden blocks and traditional tools, you will create a sculptural felt headpiece.
The focus is on:
- Felt prep, stiffening and shaping over moulds
- Sculptural hand-shaping techniques
- Organic textures and trims
A Classic Felt Hat
Inspired by timeless style icons, or handsome cowboys you will craft a sophisticated felt hat using tried and tested traditional hat making techniques
The focus is on:
- Measuring and fitting hats
- Moulding the felt over vintage wooden blocks to give youth beginnings of your creation
- Decorative trims and embellishments inspired by the stunning surroundings
-Inserting a vintage-style hat lining to complete the hatventure.

Alternatively, you take a bus to experience the hustle and bustle of the nearby vibrant town, of Westport, take in some shopping, enjoy flavours of the west and perhaps sample the local drop !
Breathe in the Atlantic Air
Enjoy the early mornings with a stroll to the local village of Mulranny, sit out and sample a coffee , breathe in that air of inspiration and happiness.
